Project Idlewild Set to Begin Redesign of Easton's Primary Play Structure
Easton, MD, January 19, 2007

Project Idlewild, a completely volunteer-driven project that is creating an innovative playground to be designed by children and built by volunteers, is bringing the Leathers and Associates design team to Easton on February 1, 2007. The experts will work with local students on the concept and design for the new park, set to be constructed this summer.

"We are thrilled to be taking the first step in making this vision a reality," said Megan Cook, Project Idlewild co-chair. "For too long, our park has been in disrepair and now concerned parents, involved educators, and civic-minded citizens are all joining the effort to raise money, secure materials, and work together on the building of the playground."

The evening of February 1, the draft design for Idlewild Park will be unveiled at a community celebration being held at Easton Elementary School Moton gymnasium. The design will incorporate the features suggested by the children of Easton. With a design in hand, there will also be a preliminary materials list and a better understanding of the budget needed. Based on estimates from the size of the structure, Project Idlewild is aiming to raise $200,000 before this spring so that the playground can be completed in summer 2007.

Organizers have created many ways to be involved. Pickets, bricks, and tiles that will be used to construct the playground can be purchased and personalized T-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, and more can be purchased at www.cafepress.com/projectidlewild. Committees such as Fundraising, Donated and Purchased Items, Tools, and Design all need volunteers to provide their expertise and time.

"It is exciting to be a part of this process and watch everyone working together," said co-chair Jill Judd. "I truly believe that this project will leave residents of Easton with a great sense of accomplishment and a strong feeling of pride in their community."

Contributions toward the revitalization are being collected at the Town Office in Easton, 14 South Harrison Street, Easton, MD 21601. "Project Idlewild" should be noted on the memo line of checks.
